The intention for this page is to contain advice or pointers to advice on making 3D-models for printing.

General advice

  • STL -files should be designed using millimetres rather than inches.
  • Make sure you have ways to remove unwanted support or unused material.
    • The use of support and the presence of excess material vary between different printing technologies.
  • Tolerances should be set according to the printing technology.
    • 0.2mm is minimum tolerance for our FDM printer
