Introduction

The Dimension SST 768 printer has been in our lab since 2007. It is based on FDM technology (Fused Deposition Modeling). The printer builds its models layer by layer from a thin ABS-plastic wire that is heated to the point where it can fuse with the model itself. During this process, the model itself is also heated to a certain degree.

Know how

Material costs

  • Each material cassette contain 922 cubic centimetres of material.
  • Both material and support material cost the same.
  • ABS material cost us about 2.9kr per ccm or slightly more than 3kr per g.

Design

  • A cylinder that should fit into a hole should have a diameter that is at least .2mm smaller than the measured diameter of the hole.
    • The ABS material adds .1mm wall thickness at any side.
  • Holes made for screws should have a diameter of approximately .1 or .2mm less than the screw.
    • Example: 2.5mm (machine-) screws fit a 2.3mm diameter hole. 2mm screws fit 1.9-1.8mm holes.
  • Wall thickness of 1.75mm is strong, while 1.5mm makes two separate lanes that may detach easily.
    • Screw-holes should have at least 2mm wall thickness
  • Structures that should not fuse together should have a space of at least .2mm
  • ABS plastic from the printer will not be watertight.
    • There are ways of post processing to achieve watertightness

Beskrivelse

Spesifikasjoner

Network Connectivity: TCP/IP 100/10 base T
Workstation Compatibility: Windows NT/Windows 2000/Windows XP
Build Size: Maximum size 203 x 203 x 305 mm

(8 x 8 x 12 inches)

Materials: ABS plastic in standard white, blue, yellow, black, red, green or steel gray colors. Custom colors available.
Support Structures and Removal: Catalyst™ software automatically creates any needed

support structures to complete the part. Two support removal processes are available. With Dimension BST, breakaway support technology allows for easy support removal - simply break away the supports. Dimension SST offers a soluble support removal process for hands-free model completion.
